I was completely stumped until I saw the little “This one’s for you, Stu Rakoff!” thing at the bottom left of the last panel. Now I just figure it’s something that only this “Stu Rakoff” person would get.
To ypoons7666: Mostly on Sundays strips I have noticed that sometimes there are a couple panels that are not directly related in the same time frame. Usually earlier or previous to panels that follow, but, sets the mood or theme.

“Sushi”.
Actually sushi is vinegared rice topped with seafood.
Raw fish is Sashimi but there are seven letters.

Why did Uncle Cosmo change clothes between the first panel and the rest of the strip?
The first three panels are ‘throwaways’ to make more space in the Sunday paper.
