Well, like i said a Dai/so ago not lots of betting-theme in my latest batch; so just so random Strips, then. In It’s current dilution Andy isn’t the me-first Pig; Thirty Years ago the fact Andy ISN’t acting irrational [a glaring exception now commonplace] was the basis for the Joke.
Our daughter, 5’1", 115lbs, decided she wanted to become a vet. Went to CalPoly San Luis Obispo, First time they had to do pregnancy tests on cows she rethought her major! Turns out her arm wasn’t long enough! lol (graduated from Cal Eureka with a degree in studio art)
soso at best, and you can see the punchline coming from a mile away, 4/10, it all would have worked much better if flo were shown laughing at her own sarcasm in the last panel (Which is how Smythe would have done it, HIS Flo was a paragon of sarcasm…helped keep her sane)
JPuzzleWhiz said, about 14 hours ago @Mikeyj Too generous. Zero.^^I gave a point for the last panel, the punch line was actually pretty good, but, the first 5 panels were terrible
I felt that not even the punchline could salvage it. Nice redo! I always get a kick out of how you “sign” them!^^I try to have fun with it

Thanks, Mr. J. I couldn’t have done it better meself. In fact I couldn’t do it meself.^^The thing you need to remember is, NEVER give away the punch line, or add extra panels that are superfluous (Not that these guys seem to know that)

@MikeyjYou probably won’t see this comment, but excellent re-do! (Like always, and didn’t you leave one of Andy’s ancestors stranded on a desert island?) I think the crew of today’s original strip, with their unoriginal thumbs-up signs, must be recent graduates of Cartooning 101. In which case I would like a recount…..Why, why, do they not credit their readers with some intellect, and why do they have to telegraph absolutely everything, from the punch lines to their characters’ inner thoughts? I don’t mind breaking the fourth wall (Smythe did it fairly often), but do it with a dash of flavor!^^I did see it :p Someday I hope to continue the saga of Captain Capplumbus, but, lately I have been very busy doing my Shonen Knife fan comic for my Shonen Knife Forum…I am the World’s hardest working unpaid cartoonist :P And yes, these guys don’t seem to know the most fundamental rules of making a cartoon strip; one of the most important being, as you said, don’t telegraph anything, other wise, the punchline becomes superfluous and loses it’s impact!
Shikamoo said, about 14 hours ago Now that is a very funny redux MIKEYJ.^^I came up with the idea "How would Andy react to this new “uptown” version of Percy?" And that is what I believe would have happened (With Andy’s true Smythian character, I mean)
We used to have a combination dog and horse track in town (technically on the Kansas side, of course). Never went to see the dogs run, but saw the horses a couple of times. My luck was kind of like Andy’s, though…….
You’re right about that ! I don’t outright recall the Lord character. -Thanks ! Today was still pleasant though cooler. Joe got the last two windows in the wall. He goofed on the measurement for the horizontal slider window that goes over the sink. We didn’t take that one out of the hole since we knew it would be some time before getting to put a new one back in. Guesstimated the size somewhat as it is hard to be exact with the old window and slider hardware in place. He cut a strip of wood to go at the top of the frame hole so the window frame would have something to lay up against. It will need to be trimmed but is sealed against the weather. Good thing, since tomorrow is projected to be a bad good deal cooler. -A happy fish Fry-day to you._________________________________________
It sounds like everything is going great with the windows from what I’ve read… Well apart from the measurement confusion but I’m sure it’s quite common for a lot of people to slip up with those type of things. -I wouldn’t know though. -Hope everything has been going fine with you. -I really laughed at Andy Capp (Oct 4th) I still read the comics when I’m absent.-Happy Monday to you!
Horse Racing in California alone destroys on-average about 200 lives, per-Year. But It’s so entertaining. and the Jockeys hardly ever die; so no prob… bet that Meat’s tasty, too.
@MikeyjOnce again you improved on the original. You made a great point about the true Flo, and how she was so much more likely to be sarcastic or snarky instead of going ballistic. (The current team has a problem with characters being way too loud for their circumstances; sometimes it makes my ears ring.) I do especially enjoy one classic example of Flo going ballistic, though. (I’m paraphrasing here.) She and Andy are at the pub, and Flo starts to leave. Andy: “Twit, yer don’t have ter go home early, yer off tomorrow! Let’s drink to yer day off.” Flo: “And let’s drink to YOURS: all 365 of them!!” Andy turns to the reader and comments, “She can get nasty when she’s had a few.”
Sorry to hear that. At least you found a way to get it running more ’normally’ again.I am glad to hear the auction went well. Did it last very long?My Monday has been ‘magnificent’ now that I’m back here.Hope yours is going just as great!
I think it’s more of a question of feeling whether the foetus is in the correct position. I’m sure that (were I female) I wouldn’t want any form of physical intervention.
If you have a redo for today’s, I don’t see it.^^What I redid was the faces in the last panel, showing the girls having a laugh at Andy’s expense, which is what Smythe usually had her do in that circumstance. I believe the joke works much better that way!

How often nowdays does Andy ‘chase Skirt’? not like when. You know Andy claims not to-be Buster’s Father but that was never proven.

Dog racing is not banned in the US. It is still legal in 7 states.

I could never be a Vet… Giving animals injections to put them to sleep would probably make me cry and that would be ‘unprofessional’
Sorry to be so soft.

I suspect Flo and the mysterious woman are aware the 3 cowboys can’t draw vehicles – otherwise they wouldn’t be standing in the road.
