First dates are the worst. You get all dolled up - and for what? Is there a discount for bringing your own mug?

yes, the caption takes you off in another direction….maybe it was an editor’s mistake, it really doesn’t fit
I think there are two jokes here, first taking a huge mug and second embarrassing his date.
The huge mug is the best for me, as I actually did something like this, taking a bucket to a small restaurant I frequent, and asking for my favorite soup.

Taking the mug on the date would be a red flag even before getting to the restaurant.
