TJ ā€œleftā€ him the instructions? So is Quill operating the wagon by himself, manning both the counter and the grill? Where did TJ go? And when is this all happening ā€“ is it on a weekend? Arenā€™t these people supposed to be in school at this time of day, otherwise?

Iā€™m wondering if this will be another failed venture by TJ? I cannot place any blame on Quill. He was led to believe that he would just be a server on that lunch wagon.

This is the same Quill who just on October 24 was telling us that he cooked his own meals, right?

And yet, if TJ himself were there, it would somehow work out to be delicious. The problem is duplication. TJ doesnā€™t know how to duplicate his successful techniques into other people. Only somebody who was ALREADY a master chef (like TJ himself) could make sense out of direction that vague.

And, also, IIRC, Quill had specifically mentioned that it was going to be an after school gigā€¦ and the one strip where Mrs. Berger welcomed them with a plate of cookies, she asked how their day was, and thatā€™s when TJs truck pulled upā€¦. -Also, I would surmise that it operates just on the weekdays, when theyā€™d get the bulk of the crowds, for people going to work and schoolā€¦.

TJ obviously hasnā€™t had any experience with Aussie culinary standards. Our friends down under think that hamburger fixings include (nay, require) sliced beetroot and fried eggs.

Itā€™s no wonder Quillā€™s cooking isnā€™t going over well here.

If this is an after-school job, then almost all of the dayā€™s business is already finished, for a ā€œlunchā€ wagon. This story arc doesnā€™t make a whole lot of sense.

I signed up (after lurking) just to comment on this strip. Where did TJ get the money to obtain a license for his food truck. Thanks for reminding me that they are still in High School. Food trucks are all the rage in Vancouver right now but the competition to get a licensee is fierce. Oh, yes I remember Greg Evens can do anything in his ā€œLuanneverseā€ My bad!

Yeah, itā€™s hard to say whoā€™s at fault here. TJ for leaving poor instructions, or Qulll for following them, rather than his own cooking instincts. Still, itā€™s TJā€™s truck/business so, in the end, heā€™s responsible.

It reminds me of Dick Gautierā€™s character on the ā€œGet Smartā€ TV series, He played the robot (canā€™t say the robotā€™s name, itā€™s not PC these daysā€¦ Just ask Rev. Jessie Jackson the next time heā€™s in NYC ;-) ). But the robot did EXACTLY, what you told it to do. Youā€™d say, ā€œ:Hey [Robot], Kill the lightā€ and heā€™d take out a pistol and shoot it.

My HS freshman English teacher did something similar. She assigned us homework ā€“ a simple essayā€¦ instructions on how to make a PB & J sandwich. Sure enough, after the essays were graded, she returned with them and a shopping bag full of PB & J supplies, and then proceeded to make the sandwiches per peopleā€™s essay instructions.

Thankfully, being a computer geek, I knew exactly where she was going. Mine wasnā€™t picked for ā€œdemonstrativeā€ purposes. Only the bad ones were. ;)

When I was first learning to cook many years ago I always loved that line in recipes ā€œCook till doneā€. How do you know?? And another one that confuses novice cooks ā€œBrown the meatā€. Does that mean till itā€™s not red or really, really brown? You gotta know who your audience is.

Also like when my wife says: ā€œLet me see the remote?ā€ I respond by holding it up in the airā€¦. of course, sheā€™d think I didnā€™t want to give it to her, anyway, Lol! ā€“ But really, thatā€™s something about the English language that always struck me as funny, the way certain words are said, what if they were applied in the way theyā€™d sound?ā€¦ Like, ā€œSuch and such just kicked your butt in Ping Pong!ā€ā€¦ or ā€œThat person was just beside themselves when they heard!ā€ or ā€œYouā€™ve got a really good head on your shoulders, thereā€ā€¦.

Judging from Quills enthusiasm with Guntherā€™s momā€™s cooking, Quill made for himself, Eggos for breakfast, Elios Pizza for lunch and frozen burritos for dinner.

anybody who operates a food truck or a concession makes their hours as they see fit. You assume a lot. ^There are already bits of information in place to come to such a conclusion, such as what Iā€™ve already outlined. Thereā€™s a big difference in assuming without putting together information and jumping to conclusions without considering said factsā€¦ ā€“ (1) Quill already said that he had an after school gig with TJā€¦.(2) TJ picked him up in the afternoon for workā€¦ (3) Setting oneā€™s hours for a food truck is quite different in setting oneā€™s hours in ā€œhackingā€ (taxi/sedan service) for a livingā€¦ it wouldnā€™t make sense to open your food service business at 3 A. M. , unless your main flow of business operates thenā€¦ factor in any other competing businesses of similar type, and voila!ā€¦ (actually, the same would hold true for a hackā€¦ ) (also, this would include any lunch time hours as naturally , there would be a crowd available, unless there is a restriction in place to prevent the truck from operation near the schoolā€¦.(4) Quill is a student, so his only hour (or less) at the truck would have to be at whichever time his lunch hour was, and that in itself may not fall within the same hours as other customersā€™ lunchesā€¦.ā€“ So, see? Itā€™s reasonable to conclude such as a possibilityā€¦.

I just wanted to add one more thing, In Vancouver, there is no cooking in the food truck. The cooking is done before and just heated in the food truck.
