Yes, I take pride in learning every skill that is offered to me. Now that I do some Medieval re-enacting it somes in handy to sew, knit and embroider. I’ve always enjoyed cooking, painting, ceramics, stained glass etc.
As a homeowner (and landlord for a while in our first place) I picked up skills in plumbing and other minor repairs (and rewired all the phones and electronics back when they just used a lighter gauge of wire. I only remember building one shelf unit from scratch and it currently lives in my hobby room upstairs, but I fixed all of the built-in shelves that leaned or wobbled in my various houses.
I now hire guys to do some of the heavy work, but still supervise to see that it’s done right. The man in my life has a business in heating and air, but still single-handedly installs new units and is handy enough to fix any kind of machine. I often helped him in jobs over the years and always admire men who are capable (handy). My own sons were taught to use hand tools as well as simple sewing repairs and enough cooking to make a meal- daughter too (but as the youngest she’s always been a problem). My daughter is not quite 50 but married 3 times.
My hubby is the kind of guy who can fix anything. I’m more handy than domestic. I can’t sew, my cooking is meh & cleaning is a bore. I can put things together, do minor car repairs, and fix things around the house. I don’t play with electricity or gas since I only know enough about them to be dangerous.
i am a carpenter, and it has been my experience that having a good talk with the top -dog lady in the house just what she wants, and where. then you cannot go wrong
I hired a neighbor who was also finish carpenter to do wood floors (and subflooring on my slab) down here where I spend much of day. but I upholstered the bench and made removable bolsters for sitting and floor mats, as well as table cover with bead fringe for my cocktail. Cuddles did not want me to show her in photo with what she had done.

My particular specialty is calling in someone who knows what they’re doing.

Yes, and getting handier everyday. Just put up some of the window insulation and storm doors while hubby sat on his duff watching Netflix.

Thanks Bev but I guess I was misleading. I put the glass in the storm doors, and took out the mesh screens! The doors themselves stayed in place. LOL!
