    I always hated when they told me that it wouldn’t hurt, and then it hurt like hell…

    @ Zero-Gabriel: with polio vaccination you didn’t get shots, it was put on sugar cubes and ingested. When I was little, our family doctor used to tell us that he used extra small and thin needles for kids and that they didn’t hurt at all. Of course we believed him and felt stupid when it did hurt.

    There were two ways to get the polio shot. One way was the sugar cube, the other was the shot. They did away with the sugar cube because it was bad for kids and not as effective as the needle shot was. The polio sugar cube idea was also discontinued probably because the sugar cubes went stale after awhile. I am old enough to remember when the measles hit, but we never got the shot during that time.

    I am 60 and remember the polio outbreaks on the Mexican border. We lined up at the elementary school and got our sugar cube. One older boy I knew had polio. Died in middle age a few years back due to some polio syndrome even after all those years. Remember seeing an unused iron lung at Texas Rehab in Houston when I worked at Texas Medical Center. Good to see it was unused

    I got the polio sugar cube and started to exhibit all the symptoms of polio. The doctor thought I had gotten full-blown polio from the cube. Mom was going crazy because my father had barely survived Bullbar polio. Fortunately, the symptoms subsided but my health has been the pits the rest of my life. There are always some who contract disease from the “preventative.”

    The Sabin oral polio vaccine was given on sugar cubes, The Salk vaccine was a shot. The Salk vaccine came later and replaceed the Sabin.

    I still marvel at the wide range of facial expressions Schulz was able to create with so few lines.

    If you are reading today, Aaron, I didn’t appreciate your nasty reply to my comment yesterday. That was cruel. I had NO intent to make my comment yesterday, a coarse one.

    Good thing Linus got his shot long before me—-my bunch had to get the measles shot AGAIN after it was learned the original batch was no good.

    Linus, Just wondering…. Do you have a comb with you?

    I had no choice but to take the pain everytime I got a shot. I wasn’t making a fool of myself by running screaming out of the nurse’s office.

    I remember getting vaccinated while in U.S. Navy boot camp. They used a type of gun that injected us with several vaccines all at once. Now that hurt! Some members of my company were actually crying. The fact that we had to have a second set of inoculations, in precisely the same manner, didn’t help.

    @Snoopy_Fan

    Hello! I hope you have been well and that you’ve had a great week. Mine was good.

    I read your comment last Saturday about your Mum being able to come out of her nursing home to be with her loved ones. I was happy when I read that. Glad you all had a wonderful time.

    May you have a blessed weekend!

    It was an exciting day in 1964 or so when we got to eat that pink sugar cube, while we were at school, no less!
