I agree with Nab and Jo Clear: Most of my bosses have been lousy. For me, I noticed the downhill change beginning about 1980 and I sometimes wondered if TV series “Dallas” had something to do with it. Bosses need to lead by example. Bosses need to stop wanting/giving ego massage.
There was a reason that I had a sign in my office that said: Does Not Play Well With OthersFor many years, I worked nights as a resort AGM, so I would not have to put up with some of the idiocy that took place during the day. My crews were like-minded individuals who were self-starters and could function extremely well with a minimum of supervision ( which is why I hired then in the first place. ) We were twice as productive as the day workers and the absenteeism and turnover rate was negligible.
@Nabuquduriuzhur I retired from one of the “Fortune 55” in 1990 and from my point of view things started going downhill right around 1970 when engineers started promoting engineers to management; experience no longer counted, “we have to promote them while they’re young or they can never reach the top.”
Boss wanted me to attend an Anger Management class but could not find one close enough. She ended up paying me a $100 stipend to teach an anger management class to myself.
@Nabuquduriuzhur1st amendment “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof” is usually so called.Save me the effort of educating you, try wikipedia:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Separation_of_church_and_state_in_the_United_States

@hollie2009ad, that is correct, a well taken point. Yes, it would seem that we’ve lost our civility.
