Walt’s friends looked considerably older than he was in 1918. I know that his age has been frequently tinkered with over the years. If he fought in WW I, he would have had to be born at least in 1896, although more recent strips have placed the year of birth at 1899 or 1900. Who are the other characters in today’s strip — Whimpy, Gootch, Spud, Tops and Mr. Whicker?

There are five lovely hardcover volumes of the strip from 1921 (when Skeezix first appeared on Walt’s doorstep) to 1930, published under the title “Walt and Skeezix”. There’s also a new paperback coming out next spring called “Walt before Skeezix”, covering the strip 1918–1920.

Did you know that Skeezix is the rightful Grand Duke of Glovania? I always sort of wondered whether they tried to locate him when the Iron Curtain fell.

Walt’s friends always looked older, and probably were; they all had children before the strip started, while Walt didn’t have his first and only biological child (Corky) until 1928.

I know you find your ups and downs with the story linesin this comic series, but it’s still has its longevity (along with Dick Tracy, Alley Oop, Nancy, etc). Comics now can’teven last past ten years.

1:35pm where I am. So far, 23 positive comments for a strip that has lasted 95 YEARS! And a lone dissenter. Wish I knew how to put a Bronx Cheer into a post. You deserve it.

There have always been a lot of adoptions in GA. Does anyone know who Rover and Hoogy’s biological parents were? Also, since there were usually 2 children in each family , it may be about time for Rover and Hoogy to have a second child, perhaps through adoption. And, by the way, where is Chipper?

I almost missed seeing the cat! Great comic.

Walt’s friends were older than him. It was hinted over the years that Walt fought WWI in the Navy. The young boys were Skeezix’s friends. Many of the older characters “died” off stage by Walt implying how all hid old friends have “gone”. Aunt Phyllis was the most recent death I think. GA will celebrate it’s 100th in 5 years I’m sure Jim is preparing something for 2018 even now.

I recall an arc in the early 1980s about a teenage girl finding a lot of money hidden in the seat of an abandon 1919 school bus. The money belonged to Pert. I wonder if there was ever an arc about Pert putting it there.
