Nope. I had a 57 Fairlane from ‘73 until ’93. Had a person back into it with a new Honda and didn’t even scratch the chrome on the bumper. A wonderful tank of a car.
I worked in a shop that had a Linotype, we still used it, along with a Heidelberg platen press. And it was not uncommon to se a ’58 Desoto on the streets either.
Not a good week for Chrysler cars. First Broom Hilda’s Plymouth needs to be put out of it’s misery. Now Cosmo’s Desoto. But as the comics go the Plymouth and Desoto will still be in the next few strips.
My parents had Dodges in the 60’s and 70’s. Those push button transmissions were unique. We sold one Dodge to a neighbor and the button jammed in reverse. My neighbor had to drive around town in reverse.

They don’t make them like that anymore.

Based on panel 3, it looks like Cosmo needs more than a rear bumper.

cosmo should look at it this way…right now his Desoto is worth more than what was paid for it when it was fresh out of the show room.

Given the quality of Mopar cars in the late ’50s, that DeSoto would have completely rusted out by 1965.

As a friend, who had a Studebaker, once said “I have to go to the museum for parts.”

…back in the day when cars had parts that could rust…

That panel was just to illustrate the Desoto de-parting! (Part of the throwaway joke on a Sunday strip.)
