my wife is this way, can’t what to get on phone and tell someone about any misfortune I may have! Thinks it’s funny and never can understand why I get upset about it.

Well Elly’s conversation with her mother all ends with exclamation points so she is yelling, which means you can rule out “a”.

Elly is the one being the JERK !!! She shouldn’t be making fun of John’s misfortune ! But, at least, John has a good suggestion for cooking the turkey, if also applies to her comments, that is too bad !

It is not a cartoon. It’s a comic strip! ;)

Get busy Ellie and make LOTS of stuffing for the big turkey. The 25 pounder, not John. LOL

But it IS a cartoon based on the fact that cartoonists exaggerate everything for the laugh. And to me, Elly is being human. I don’t know why everyone is always so hard on her for not being perfect (John either for that matter).

Seems these two are always mocking each others’ misfortunes. He’s done it to her and now she’s doing it to him. They don’t seem to me to be a very loving couple. I wonder how they stayed married so long, even if it is a comic.

Ellie is being the jerk now, but usually we see John being the jerk.

JOHN is the jerk?? I don’t think so … in this case, Elly is being the rude one, by retelling a story that isn’t really hers to tell.

This series seems to be getting kind of nasty, especially for the holidays.

Way to go John. It is one thing to tease within the family, but another to ridicule him in front of the neighborhood.

This is why John ran off with Ted later on. Ted was able to give him the love he needed.

Lynn Johnston blurred the lines between fantasy and reality by using her family for the cartoon.

I read an interview Johnston gave years ago. She divorced her husband cuz he cheated on her. And, uh, that really seems to have no relationship to the mean thing Elly is doing here. I wish people would let this fictional story be a story!

She is a cold bitch to be laughing at his pain and suffering. Who’d want to be married to someone like that.
