Gracie: What's that, Papi? Dad: I subscribed to a collector's magazine! Dad: It has great interviews with big-time collectors who buy the world's rarest treasures! Gracie: Cool! Gracie: What rare treasures do yo collect? Dad: Magazines.
I’d love to have the July 1963 NG again – it included illustrated maps with a play by play of each day of the Battle of Gettysburg. I used to compare events while playing the Avalon Hill game (1977 version) with the real ones.
When I was an early teen an old recluse from a couple farms over died. His family paid me and my cousins to empty out his house which turned out to be packed, floor to ceiling in nearly every room, with old magazines. The majority of them were still in their shipping wrappers. I’m talking National Geographic, Life, Look, Sat. Eve Post, and many, many more dating from the 1920’s until the 70’s.I so wanted to keep them and I kept getting distracted from hauling them out. It took us boys all week, several pickup loads a day, to haul them all to the dump.I still get sad thinking about it.

About the only magazine that you hear of bringing in money from collectors is National Geographic.
