Thank you all for your kind words and concern. My husband was truly touched. He is going to carry on as usual, which means golf 4 days a week. You have to admire that.
At least these two dears have had their DL’s revoked. I wonder if they still drive? And, was there ever any doubt that they would qualify as seniors? Really? To quote John Boehner, “Are you kidding me?”
Wow, one whole percent?A whole dollar off every $100 you spend…. not that Joy could calculate that, or cares. Her ears close as soon as she hears a word like “discount.”
Still, those dimes and quarters do add up, you know….We just got a store in the next town, part of a chain I knew from Southern California called “99 Cents Only.”
I noticed, though, it’s now 99.99 Cents only.
So I Googled it, and discovered that a few years ago, due to rising costs, they indeed raised their price by .99 cents … an almost but not quite 1% rise….
Which they estimated would bring in an extra 12 million dollars a year to the whole chain.
I doubt Scallywags does a billion dollars a year, though… giving a few customers their senior discount probably cost them less than 25 bucks in 2013.
And yes, Purple, there ARE “people like that”… cos 99.99 Cents only got sued by people who felt misled by the increase…. even though they actually have some great deals for that price.
And a local discount grocery where I sometimes shop used to ever-so-generously have one “Senior Wednesday” a month…5% off till 5pm.
Yea 9- noon is a good deal for those who can get out. A lot have to depend on their children to take them so they have to wait till they get home from work about 5-6? maybe later?Unless they have a taxi take them or some sort of paid service. Then where is the savings??Gas is 3.43 here now
In Crustwood, seniors don’t use toothpaste or control top pantyhose? TMI warning:
Actually they make L’eggs in a size (Q?) which is huge, and I still wear the B sometimes (but it flattens my butt too much) and I scrub my mouth with toothpaste even if I soak my dentures.
Of course its a new store, Joy and Burl have worn out their welcome at all the old ones. They subscribe to the “buy, use once and return for a refund” style of shopping.

So cheap, and yet so fruitless. 1%? What’s sad is I’ve met people like this.

I saw that one of Everly Bros. died. Not a big fan but he was younger than I. ;-(
