When I look back on my life and work, it was almost always the jobs I didn’t really want, that I got hired for, and that, in the long run proved the most satisfying and rewarding.
From yesterday:@Dry: Glad you’re feeling better. I look at your profile everyday, hoping to see comments (ban lifted). As I emailed you via @Gweedo (Free Range Dry) Murray (would prefer to do it directly), the offer (that the GC Moderator deleted, got Flagged I guess) still stands. Since he generally doesn’t post any email from you until late in the day, I generally wait until the next day to read this (and BS) to see if anything was posted.Because my other advisory post was also removed by the GC Moderator (maybe this will be as well), I won’t offer any advise here.@beviek (FREE DRY NOW IF NOT SOONER): I pray your mother’s surgery went well. Mine didn’t have surgery; she had a heart attack at 87, 6 months after my Dad passed, at 94, in 1996. After the attack, they checked its condition, by inserting a tube into the large vein in her groin and pushing it into her heart.Once that was done, they placed a weighted bag on the incision, and told her not to move for a few hours, to allow the wound to close. Being hard of hearing, she didn’t understand them, moved, and got a bad infection. It was touch and go for about a week, while they got her fever under control (I’ve never felt so helpless as during that week). It took the wound several months to heal (lots of home care, cleaning it, etc.).So I hope your mother clearly understood what she was told after surgery.@Linguist: I also pray your brother’s surgery went well. Heart and lung?? Was it a double transplant?Following my aortic root replacement in 2010 (12" scar is now almost invisible), I was discharged in a week, and walking several miles in a month. He’ll have to take more than the baby aspirin I do; but I hope his recovery goes at least as well. That may sound flippant; I’ve never been that good at expressing such things.
A Christmas present for the Cappers (and I promise not to post anymore of my irrelevant stories or poems until the next major holiday……..which should be National Pickle Week!)/
/The Night Before Wolfmas/
T’was the night before Christmas, with church bells glad tonesBut the wolf paid no heed, gnawing antelope bonesAnd gizzards of penguins and eyeballs of wombats(He’d worked up an appetite, winning those combats)
The wolf was well-mannered, he kept out of barsAnd ate ducklings and trucklings and kids Hot Wheel CarsAnd also pajamas, both empty and fullTuxedoes and Frodos and bison and bull
Just then overhead flew a man in a sleigh(The reindeer kept out of wolf’s reach and his way)The sleigh circled round, flying nearer and nearerThe wolf gave a sneer, which got sneerer and sneerer
Then the wolf took a look: that man seemed familiarBringing back memories, glad though peculiarOf far-away days when the wolf was a pupAnd life was a joy, with a “why” to wake up
Then the man in the sleigh did something unseemlyFrom out of a nightmare (or, leastways, a dreamly)Dropped a whole sack of coal (and plutonium, too!)On the head of the wolf (and his fleas and ticks, too)
You weep for the wolf, whose hopes were all dashed? You shed friendly tears ‘cause his life is all crashed? He HADN’T had hope, no matter how fleetingThe wolf gave a snort and went back to his eating

There was a great reform earlier in the year when an independent agency interviewed loads of claimants, The agency was instructed to “Mark people down”. At my own interview, I answered the questions honestly and made the request that my own doctor be consulted (which they said they would do). My answers were returned to me a while later and bore no similarity to what I actually said. My doctor (and neurology consultants) were never contacted and as a result I lost my disability benefit..I am still trying to regain them. Others have the same problem; while a man across the road who can climb ladders onto his roof, is receiving a disability allowance and even had a brand new car purchased at no expense to himself. Those who deserve the benefits, don’t get it while others who spout a lot of BS get everything they want.
My mom passed, at 95, in 2005. In an odd coincidence, my dad passed, at 94, when I was 49, and I was 59 when she passed — both times the reverse of their ages.

Sometimes it helps NOT to be honest in an interview.
Andy learned the hard way.

Mahoney was doing the drawing then as now, but Kettle was the writer. G&G rarely have a good idea.
