She had to have had that script all loaded and ready to go.

I do that sometimes. My go-to answer is “Hello, Satanic Ritual Hotline, how can we sacrifice your soul today? (pause) Press one to make deals with minor demons. Press two to join our exclusive D&D club. Press three to inquire about vacancies in Hell. To book a flight to Florida, also press three. If you wish to speak to a creature of darkness, press four. To sell your soul for immortality, press five. To speak to the devil himself, press 666.” They usually hang up before I can finish the lines, but if they somehow stay on the line, play some thrash metal for hold music. Messing with phone scammers is quite entertaining.

My brother flipped the script on the telemarketer once, who insisted he play through.

With caller ID, there is never a need to answer the phone when it is a number you don’t recognize. If it was important, they can leave a message and then I can decide if I want to call back. Almost no one ever leaves a message. You can also block those numbers you don’t ever want to hear from again.
