It’s not the same world, Joe. College expenses have climbed faster than inflation for decades, while wages have stagnated. If it’s any comfort, public sector wages like yours have probably done better than public sector. And, if it’s any comfort, your kids will likely look back and wonder how you did so much better than they can do.

I would guess that the boys got grants, scholarships, etc. starting with Marcus getting a full ride football scholarship

Maybe Dad made them work and put their money into 529’s! I’m putting a little into my kids 529. She should have at least 1/2 of her costs accumulated by the time she graduates.

I larfed me head off on this one. I was harking back to a Jump Start strip I’d seen before. Went on Google and was referred to my comment on Jump Start, February 13, 2013. (You can see it – it’s the last comment.)

When my kids were applying to colleges I noticed there were lots of scholarships and grants for children of police officers. These will probably help their kids.

Joe’s dad didn’t waste money on unnecessary things like the internet, cable TV, new cars, and cell phone(s). Take those monthly payments away and be amazed at how much extra money you have!
