During which one person’s true love reportedly sent them 12 drummers drumming, 22 pipers piping, 30 lords a-leaping …_We’d sometimes exchange gifts within our household on either the 23rd or Christmas morning; Christmas Eve with Mom’s side of the family; and on Thanksgiving weekend, Christmas, or the 26th with Dad’s side depending on when we made the 9-hour drive to get to them. ‘Twas even more for my sister – her birthday is the 27th. This year we’re looking at opening some of the presents from her on New Year’s Day because they aren’t in the mail yet (but then, she loves cows, and NYD doubles as the Eighth Day). Then there’s my sister-in-law, who gave me my 1995 Christmas present on Father’s Day 1996 (we had met in New York). Another year I only got my present from her as early as the following April because my father-in-law had a heart arrest while vacationing with us, and she came to see him.

Had but didn’t execute the idea of conspiring with my wife’s coworkers to pretend that her 40th birthday was actually the day after.
