    A miner, tamping black powder into a hole once, had it explode. The explosion drove the tamping rod through his bottom jaw and out the top of his skull. He survived, despite the rod destroying part of his brain. The part that controlled his temper and ability to self censor his speech from all reports. Mpofu got off easy compared to that.

    The first “skyscraper” was completed in Chicago in 1884, and was 138 feet high. In 1879, I’m not sure there was a straight sided building tall enough to allow the “fire escape” parachute to deploy.
