Seems unlikely that we’ll get smarter. We just shout down the ones that want to get in the way of our short term profits. As George Carlin pointed out, we aren’t going to save the planet, but it will be fine. We’re just a short term experiment that doesn’t seem to be working out too well. The planet has a way of working out these problems.

I’ve often thought that the Sapiens of Homo Sapiensshould be in quotation marks, so as to mark it cearlyas the ultimate oxymoron.

A couple of my friends are biologists, specialising in “ecosphere recuperation.” When asked what this means, they said, “It means it’s too late now, but we’re going to try to fix what we broke.”

Something to think about pure water has a ph of around 7 or so. Take a clean glass container set it out in the rain and let it fill then check the ph of the rain water anything lower than 7 is an acid.

If you want to eliminate pollution, abolish the EPA. 40 years of experience should be enough to persuade. Instead of brainlessly delegating the responsibility to 9-5 bureaucrats, we would then be personally responsible. Plus, it would save the country a fortune.

I still think Calvin would make a great lecturer on Revelations or the apocalypse and maybe after that engage in a little socio-political reformation.

You call that a dump; every other backyard on the south side of Chicago looks ten times worse than that. I’m very impressed with the subject of today’s strip. Can’t wait to see how you’re going to approach the indifference, ignorance and lack of discipline in our youth, our future. More like our demise.

It’s usually a matter of how much money can be made, not what’s best for the ecology.

There are four natural ways to control the population of any species: resource scarcity, disease, environmental pollution, and predation. How would you like to go? Infinite population growth like infinite economic growth, while plausible in simple mathematical models, is impossible in nature.

USA leads the way:“About 30 percent of the 430 billion lbs of food produced in the United States is wasted, an incredible statistic, especially given the lack of landfill space, not to mention the global menace of world hunger.

The shocking statistic gives a new meaning to the term ‘junk food,’ as Americans are sending 133 billion lbs (60 billion kg) of food to the garbage dump each year. To put it another way, 141 trillion calories annually – or 1,249 calories per capita daily – went uneaten in the United States, according to a report by the US Department of Agriculture."

Not Polluting is Bad for Business. So, we should do away with all those Business Strangling Regulations.

Not all humans pollute the environment. I walk into town when I can and leave the care at home. I wait till I see a trash can and then throw things out. Reminds me of a rental I use to live in. A scum who was visiting the building once took a tissue and threw it on the clean lobby floor when the garbage room was just a few feet a way. Low life scum.

We don’t do anything before it’s too late. We only act when there’s money in it for us. Sadly, nothing has changed in the years since this comic was published, and nothing will until there is either a catastrophic impetus or lots of money to be made. We should at least remember that we have all the water we have ever had and all that we will ever have. We need to take better care of it — there is no more where that came from.

Chekov was aware of the impact of deforestation on the climate when he wrote Uncle Vanya. Read the script, or see Mamet’s “Vanya of 42nd Street.” Dr Astrov speaks many of Chekov’s personal ideas.
