I don’t think he shot his companion. There was no bang or smoke from the gun. I think he was just threatening him to do the job. After all, if he shot him, who would shoot the hostages? It appears there is no one else around at the moment to carry out the order. Jane may still effect her rescue SKJAM!
In that first cel showing the pistol it looks like a Glock, but in the next two it appears to be a Beretta 9mm, with the safety half-on! These artists should know their ordinance and their features…shame on you, Gray Morrow! :)> BangBangAGowa!!

I was kind of hoping Jane would contribute to her own rescue, as she sometimes did in the books.
