Give her an extra fiver and tell her to get one for herself while she’s out. Show a little sensitivity, dude.

I remember the day I was told I couldn’t joke around with a co-worker of the opposite sex because it could be misconstrued as harassment. (and there were no under-tones of ANY sort) I replied: HUH???

Just once John stop being such a jerk! Buy it yourself! Idiot didn’t even say he’d give her the money for it, he expects her to waste her lunch hour buying something for his wife which he may or may not reimburse her for. Poor Elly stuck with such an insensitive jerk.

Do you really think it gets you off the hook for stupid and insensitive comments if you call us “haters” ahead of time? I can see you sitting there at your computer screen waiting for everyone to start flaming your direction and laughing at the fact that you have labelled everyone who disagrees as the bad guy. Guess what. It doesn’t work. Everyone here knows who the insensitive jerk is, and no amount of preemptive name calling will change that.

My dentist would never discuss anything personal with anyone else in the room, while he was working on me. That’s unprofessional in my book.

On advantage of looking like me, you don’t get much sexual harassment. In fact, the only time I did was from a boss’s secretary who not only thought she was in charge, but probably was.

As to sexual harassment….WHAT? There’s a difference between dismissing someone of the other gender as in- consequential, as John is doing, and making sexual advances. Get a clue, people.

I worked in an office in Hollywood in the 60s, we kidded with our female secretaries, no sexual overtones, and none one made a case of it. This would not do today.

I never wanted chocolates for V-day. I’d rather go out to dinner and/or receive a small piece of jewelry.

I suppose it’s a conundrum of sorts, but why do we never see ads shaming women to buy Valentine’s Day presents for men? My wife asked me that, adding “is there anything we’re SUPPOSED to give men?” The only thing I could think of was maybe a six-pack of really good beer (nothing out of St. Louis or Milwaukee), but there really isn’t. Valentine’s Day is totally a one-way street.

When you work with engineers or other introverts, you do the workplace a favor when you remind everyone about Valentine’s Day. It is really sad to see some of those poor souls the day after, after the wife’s cold shoulder – or left hook.
