The alligator and crocodile girls wanted to go out with him, but he told them … after some time has elapsed.

I just didn’t get this at first. I thought it was a kidney or kidney bean. Maybe because it’s been years since I’ve eaten jelly beans….

I love this strip. Especially when I have to figure out the obscure references.

Those of us who are obscure and understand the obscure will keep reading. Know what I mean, Jelly bean??? (Right, Susan ?)

Embarrased. I thought it was a big kidney bean and I was like, “WTH?”

@Dogsniff, I’m strictly US, but never used that slang so Susan’s comment helped me (I’m sure I HEARD it once or twice long ago) but to me it is simple entendre (not double).

Right, Perkycat! I am also pretty obscure, and I enjoy the obscure… and a good puzzle…

I don’t get some of the ones about things I don’t follow, like sports or most of the newer comic books or TV.

But wow… I didn’t think of this one as obscure whatsoever…

Back in the early 70’s, the 4-year-old kids in my nephew’s daycare walked around saying “Know what I mean, jelly bean?” and giggling.

They also used other rhyming phrases, like “Later, tater” and “what’s the plan, Stan?”

(Not so much the “old people” ones from MY youth, though, like “See you later, alligator”.)

Anyhow, I thought almost every genX-er and most of their parents and grandparents knew that phrase by now!It does seem like the colorist must have missed the joke and colored it like a kidney bean, which confused the issue for some.

Would be clearer if it were pink or light green, with maybe some other pastel ones sitting around.

BTW this strip first ran here just about 2 years ago….it still says Guy and rOdd, but I think I see Dan’s hand in the artwork…..

    Dan?

The woman in the background (in the upper right corner)… Is that Mel Lazerus’ Miss Peach? Been a while since I last saw her!
