Bucky: Robert, with my new invention, I can offer you a way out of all the filth and squalor in which you now live. Rob: I forgot to wash some shirts, how does that equate to living squalor? Bucky: No offense, but if you wrote a story about your life and sent it to Frank McCourt, he would reject it as being unrealistically squalid. For example, I know for a fact that somewhere in this house is a shoebox full of dead rats... Rob: Dude, that's your box!

I guess the rats weren’t as sentient as the rest of the animal characters in this strip.

I’m reminded of the time I was by the downstairs fridge and saw something small, dark, pointed and with a tail lying on the floor in a shaded area. To me it looked like a mouse. I called the dog who ignored it. If it wasn’t a mouse, what was it? We got flashlight and I sent my stalwart husband to check it out. It was a tiny eggplant that must have fallen when we brought in the fall harvest.

I loved the Frank McCourt reference – Frank is a VERY squalid human being.
