Frazz by Jef Mallett for February 03, 2014
Transcript:
Caulfield: Huh. I thought that would push Mr. Spaetzle's buttons. Frazz: What would push his buttons? Caulfield: Calling a year-old song an oldie. Frazz: You realize "oldie" is a RADIO format. Caulfield: What's your point? Student: I saw a radio with push-buttons on elderstuff.com.

Aw. I was hoping that was a real website.

Time is relative. To a 2-year-old, a year is 50% of his life. To a 50-year-old, a year is 2% of his life.

back in the day my brother used to get albums (LPs!) of āGolden Oldiesā that were at least a year old. Songs from last week were old news. This was a change from the 50s when pop songs might be high on āYour Hit Paradeā for months.

āYou do realize oldie is a RADIO formatā ā what IS his point? I donāt get it. Someone explain whatās going on in this obscure strip, from start to finish, please.

kea: ĖThe average lifespan eight weeks, but that was for the top eight, not 20 or 40.

Iām thinking Mr. Spaetzle had probably never heard of the song. Iād be hard-pressed to name a song from the last five years.
