It is a “Christmas Card” list. Why send cards if not for wishing a “Merry Christmas?” Cards for “thinking of you” would mean something if sent at another time of year. “Happy holidays” would work better for President’s Day and the like.
I think the most important instruction here is the unspoken one: “How to Send Out Christmas Cards…in January.”
