2Old… I think that’s only when Agnes does the shopping.
She conveniently “forgets,” like almost any preteen.
I do believe Grandma tries… though in some parts of the country, fresh produce is difficult for poor people in winter, especially without transportation.
(I’m lucky to have a car, and live in California, where, with diligence, we can find bargains all year on fresh fruit and vegetables.)
She does indulge Agnes on some little things, if she can afford it.
Schoolchildren tend to beg for junk food…. they have to eat anyway, and a box of Pop Tarts is cheaper than the computer Grandma wishes she could buy her.
Just this weekend I marveled that I could buy (and afford both) fresh strawberries and blueberries in JANUARY. When I was a kid, out of season meant it stayed on the market shelf.
I’m not sure even Agnes would stoop to toaster strudels and olives. -——————————-Yes, there is a truck. It figured in a Christmas arc a few years back when Granny and Agnes got stuck in a snowstorm. I do remember Granny commenting that “This is the eighth day of the novena for the valve lifters.”
Road Trip! The adventure begins…. will they make it to the store? Will there be enough money and coupons to pay for allllll the groceries? And…. will they make it safely home?

Greetings from Chicago where it feels like 23 below. I too need to go grocery shopping.

I have to hoof it to the grocery (student loans ≠car). This morning it was -5. Made the 1.6 miles feel like 5 uphill, both ways.
