Although Jose didn’t become as prominent as the others, the late 60s and early 70s saw some great additions to Peanuts. Peppermint Patty, Marcy, Woodstock, Rerun, Franklin… They gave the strip a second wind.

Golly…I don’t remember him at all, and I was reading these strips when they were new. He must not have been in much.He looks like CB with hair. And the big smile, of course.

Jose didn’t stick around long. He made a valiant effort to help the team, and then decided it was hopeless; they were beyond hope.

Eventually, more and more new characters had big, round heads like Charlie Brown’s. Rerun looked like Linus because they were brothers, but that shape head became more rare. I think Freida might have even made a late appearance with her head reshaped.

Peripheral characters seemed to come and go over the years on Peanuts. In the earlier days you saw Shermy, Violet, Frieda and 5 more often, but they were all but gone by the Seventies when the likes of Peppermint Patty, Marcy, Woodstock and Franklin had been created. I think Roy usually popped up during summer camp. I do remember Jose Peterson, though.

Yep, I remember that part. Also, I remember Jose apparently lived in different states and Patty would tell Charlie something to the effect of, “That’s the way Jose Peterson hit when his family lived in (fill in the state).”

In that case, the name would be spelled Pedersson!

This character’s development has an interesting history; SPARKY said in his autobiography that he had a dream one time with the name Jose Peterson.
