Alice: My Mom and I are planting a vegetable garden. Alice: It'll be huge, with all kinds of vegetables. Beni: Will you sell them at a roadside produce stand? Alice: Of course! You don't think I'm going to eat that awful stuff.
We eat broccoli nearly every day, so our boys assume it’s the normal meal food. Snack food was sliced peppers or chopped carrots, which they did not equate with vegetables for quite some time.
Usually kids can enjoy thing they grow themselves if they’re cooked nicely and simply.
On the other hand, I find more and more ways to hide more nutritious veggies in my foods. The latest thing is beet roots- I’m not only using them in my breakfast bars, but the last time I pre-boiled some for that, I reused the red water to cook the broccoli for my pasta sauce (mixing that puree with tomato made it less red, but now it’s pre-colored).
I find that orange zest and cranberries hide the taste of the beets, so next I may do a healthy version of a red velvet cake.

Beni is being practical, but I fear Alice is fantasizing; she will learn after the harvest….

The only vegetable that all four of my grandkids will eat is broccoli.
