Clayton: May I approach the bench? Adam: Okay, Clayton. I need you to clean your room. Clayton: Or what? Adam: What? Clayton: Clean my room...or what? Adam: CLAYTON! Clayton: No, no. I don't mean it disrespectfully. It would just help if I knew the consequences of NOT cleaning. Is it just a question of me being in trouble? Or are you worried that tolerance sets a bad precedent? Or are you worried I'll trip over a toy and hurt myself? Is it a liability issue? Laura: What are you doing? Adam: Trying to block "legal dramas" on Netflix.

How about “it’s a pigsty”, for starters? I was not, as a child, the world’s tidiest, but it wasn’t until one morning when I woke up and realized I didn’t want to open my eyes and look at the mess, that I decided I needed to change my ways.

As a Kid I used a similar decision making process. If I wanted to do something, that I thought might elicit punishment. I tried to determine what the balance the level of punishment to fun ratio was. If the fun exceeded the expected punishment, then the fun won out. I was occasionally wrong, but I NEVER nogoicated with my Dad. I was sure hat would not work out in my favor.
