Not a librarian but who remembers House 2 with John Ratzenberger as the Exterminator or Handy man (can’t remember which its been a few years since the 80’s)with the sword hidden in his tool box for dealing those pesky alternate dimensions inside the walls?
Ultimately it’s not about finding the Ark, it’s about saving the love of Indy’s life – Marion. Without Indy, she either would have died when Toht went to her bar, or she would have been there with her eyes open when Belloq opened the Ark. The quest, ultimately, was for Marion.

@Clark Kent… a billiards-playing archaeologist? Why Not? Everyone can be a hero. Even a librarian…

But what if it had been Tom Selleck instead of Harrison Ford?

I like to think Indy kind of helped by surviving so he can warn people not to open the ark.

Since the character kind of came first, and the movie was built up on him, it’s really an oddly revisionist question.
