Let’s see how you like it when you run out of money, Lila.

Annie, as I’m sure you’ll remember, was a child prodigy, a genius. She could outsmart and outthink just about every other character in the strip. This included outsmarting and outthinking some of the more unsavory characters. Give her a stool, and she’d win all your money at pool. Give her a booster seat, and she’d win all your money at poker.Unfortunately, certain unsavory characters take offense at being outsmarted, especially when money is involved. And they don’t always use, “thinking,” in their day to day activities. These people are known by a number of names: the Mob, the Syndicate, the Mafioso, etc. Thus, sad to say, Annie is now experiencing a serious bout of negative buoyancy at the bottom of the Hudson River. There, she shares fashionable cement shoe accessories with a notorious assortment of gentlemen who made the mistake of believing they could outthink these people and get away with it.You don’t cross the Don. You just don’t. Annie crossed the Don.Poor thing. They couldn’t even find a pair of cement galoshes in her size. They had to stuff all of her into the left one. [sniff]

No, Lila. Being unemployed is coffee at McDonald’s – a free refill using a cup you pulled out of the trash – and reading one of those free daily newspapers they hand out at the bus stations. Oh, and trying to sip the coffee slow, so they don’t kick you out of the restaurant and back into the cold weather too soon.

Since these are re-runs from the beginning, Annie has yet to appear. Don’t you read the comments made on other days about this???

If you’re estimating 10.5M based upon the official underreported government numbers, then you’re short by about 45 million. I, for one, no longer count toward the official unemployment numbers, because I am one of millions who has burned up his state unemployment, hasn’t found a job, and is watching in disgust as Congress can’t even come to a vote on whether to extend emergency unemployment and how to pay for it. (Here’s an idea: Cut Obamacare, the EPA, the IRS, and all other overly intrusive government agencies, and put the money into emergency unemployment compensation. That should do it.)
