Google is our best friend, and often makes us more informed than some of the md’s with a god complex. Just sayin’.

Although I’m not a fan of Google, I have appreciated being able to search (usually with a different search engine) regarding medical issues. Mayo Clinic found out last year I have something extremely rare, but while I was waiting to get into their specialist (over a month after the diagnosis), I could do research on the internet and learned as much about it as my family doctor could on his physician sources. Seeing the specialist was still helpful, but I don’t regret using the internet to learn about what I have.

Gosh, don’t ya luv Google? Or you could be lazy and try Web MD and plug in some symptoms. Wow! Then you could get 25 horrible disorders. Or try “Doc Hollywood” movie technique, “Don’t crack open the boy’s chest. Give him some cola. That will be 50 cents.”

Google very good! It can keep you from agreeing to unnecessary tests that a Dr. recommends before he actually looks at your lab results and your medical history. You can say no.You have to be a strong advocate for yourself when dealing with the medical community. They see so much horrible stuff and often only the really bad results. It is difficult for them to recognize a patient who is healthy and doing well..
