This is not the last time the Widow Doonesbury will discuss moving in with Mike.

@dukedougAnd the sign said “Long-haired freaky people need not apply”So I tucked my hair up under my hat and I went in to ask him whyHe said “You look like a fine upstanding young man, I think you’ll do”So I took off my hat, I said “Imagine that. Huh! Me workin’ for you!”

Dad (sputtering, outraged):“How can you tell if he’s a girl or a boy?”

Me: “If I’m close enough to need to know, I’ll KNOW.”

One of the reasons they made me live in supervised student housing that year.Which was a few years before this strip… but who’s counting…..

@leftwingpatriotI actually did that. It must’ve been ‘74 when I was working construction. I was getting warm from working and didn’t have a rubber band to make a pony tail, so I tucked my hair under my hat. An excavator – “redneck” but nice guy – was on the site that day. We only saw him on occasion and it had been weeks since we saw him last. When he saw me he said, “I see you got your hair cut.” Thinking of that song, I just couldn’t resist it and removed my hat letting it all hang down. It was a tailor made situation.

I was a little old to be a hippie, but I wore a headband and let my long hair hang. The hippies would give me peace signs.(Yeah, yeah, I know – anyone can be a hippie. I see ’em now, with their skimpy ponytails and bald heads. But I was over 30!)

Nowadays a lot of schools require students to live in supervised student housing the first couple of years.

Hey! I just realized that the first three weeks of reruns have skipped through a year and a half of old strips.

@rosieredfieldThe main point of the reruns is to give readers not familiar with the early Doonesbury some background on the characters. The reruns have not yet reintroduced some characters that were important in the early years but faded or disappeared altogether as time went by.Nicole, a woman libber:-http://www.gocomics.com/doonesbury/1971/9/29-Bernie, Mike’s lab partner. He would again play an important part in Mike’s life when Mike moves to Seattle.-http://www.gocomics.com/doonesbury/1971/2/22-My favorite was Rufus Jackson, an inner city kid who liked to go by the name Thor.-http://www.gocomics.com/doonesbury/1971/4/5

@Night-Gaunt49Of course, lenghth of hair has nothing to do with the ability to work hard. Some of those long haired weirdos went on to do big things:-http://www.thenextgreatgeneration.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/hillary_bill_clinton_college2.jpg-http://edibleapple.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/jobs-highschool-graduation.jpg-

“Me: Habitual nudity clears it up real fast pops.”The possible reaction to that is a rather funny mental image.
