That’ll work better if you only use one finger in one ear. You need at least a entry point.

Wilberforce has plugged his left ear, and shielded his right ear from any sounds coming from behind him, so he can supposedly hear better. Trying to get Gladys’ words in through his right ear, keeping them from going out his left ear.
