Who knew that Moondog was a walking, talking Linguistics 301 demonstration?!

They aren’t words for snow. They are words for the various stages and conditions of snow throughout its deposition by precipitation and subsequent development into ice or back to water or a gaseous state by sublimation. Knowing which is which is important in terms of safe navigation, procurement of food and knowledge of immediate and future weather conditions.

The english language got more words for snow than they do.
