Bucky Katt: Ok, you're not gonna believe this... so I'm in my closet, right? And I'm- Satchel Pooch: You're right. I don't believe that. Bucky Katt: That isn't the not believable bit. I was- Satchel Pooch: Well I don't believe any of it now. It's tainted with lies. Bucky Katt: Ok. You got me. New story now. All true. And scary. Satchel Pooch: Ooo, excellent. Bucky Katt: So, I'm in... I was in my closet, and I heard voices. Satchel Pooch: And? Bucky Katt: And what? What's scary. Satchel Pooch: That's not scary, that's good! You can't talk to people otherwise. I don't know any sign language. Bucky Katt: No, man. The point is...um... Good Lord. You're so dumb I get confused. Satchel Pooch: If you stop hearing my voice, then do this.

I am so stealing that lineā¦.There is a character in Dog Island, by Patricia Cornwell. Her name is Windy Breese. She always mangles clichesā¦A staple in the finger is worth two in the buttā¦A penny is mightier than the wordā¦..She does it so often that the people she works with understand what she means, and in fact are starting to get a little vague on what the original cliches actually wereā¦.So now they use hersā¦..

I can explain it to you, but I cannot understand it for you.

I was driving around north of Lake Superior and came upon a stop sign. Of course, in bold letters the red octagonal sign said STOPā¦.And of course, right next to the word somebody had spar painted āeh?ā So it reads Stop, eh? I had to laughā¦

Thatās so funny I canāt stop laughing. Trouble is, I have an old friend who is the human embodiment of Bucky. Heās like him in every way except the cat body, and I think theyāre both in about the same physical shape, for that matter. So when I read this strip, daily, Iām hearing Buckyās voice and seeing his mannerisms as though they were real, because they are to me. Endearing? No. Not that kind of memories. Funny? Yes.

DC is very fond of acronyms. Perhaps thatās why drivers here seem to think STOP means Step Toe On Pedal, with no indication which pedal or for how long.

Best stop sign: STOPā¦ then, hand-lettered paper sign taped underneath, āThen Proceedā. Gotta wonder about the traffic jam that prompted that one.

Nice to see Satchel has a maple leaf on his wall in honor of his heritage (or pedigree, as the case may be).

Over the Pacific where I live our stop signs are triangular and say: ę¢ć¾ć.

Patricia Cornwell wrote a book called Dog Island? I thought I had read everything sheās written! Iāll have to check my library.
