Hobbes’s line gave me a laugh – partly because I remembered an acquaintance as a teen bragging how he beat up a burglar who still got away with his stuff.
The reason we call people names, especially insulting and belittling ones, is so that we can marginalize them and make them seem less like persons. Thus, “queers” (among others) can be denied legal and social status because they are less human than us “normals”. And some people just love to call others names.
One thing I always wondered about people who get robbed, why do they fear the robbers will come back? They robbed the place and know there are a lot of people who are investigating and milling about, why would they come back?
I think Calvin’s way of dealing with the tragedy is better than mom or even dad’s. Some folks, often aided by others, will dwell on the subject for days, weeks, months, even years. You will never be able to turn back the clock, so it is important to dust yourself off, and move on.Sorry if my comment is offensive to some sensibilities; but, it is what it is…

I don’t see why Hobbes is boasting about the burglars leaving AFTER they stole the TV and jewelry.

mmm…Hobbes is usually the voice of reason to Calvin’s fantasyland. This sounds more like Calvin’s voice in Hobbes’ mouth.
