Very disappointed in Prez. Obama bowing down to the Saudi King. He should have shook his hand like all the other leaders. And why is he saying we are not a Christian nation when over 75% of Americans say they are Christians?
Greeneyedtxn, whether or not most Americans claim a specific religion is irrelevant. Our constitution separates church and state – which is genius of our system.
Separation between church and state, absolutely vital to all the citizens in this diverse country. It is amazing to me that in the past several years science was shoved out of the way by the religious right and look where it got us. Worship as you choose, but don’t make me suffer for your beliefs. That is a very interesting story about Ben Franklin, BTW.
By the way, bowing to a king is not “bowing down” to a king. A subject kneels or genuflects; an equal bows. Americans seem to falsely believe that we are all common compared to nobility – the truth is that we are all equal to royalty, because we the people own sovereignty!
Itisme - You are off of your meds - according to recent Gallup polls, Pew Research Polls, and quite a number of other reputable sources, between 75% and 80% of US citizens describe themselves as Christian, 60% say they attend church “regularly”, and over 85% say that they believe in “a” God. Interestingly enough, one poll showed a higher percentage (89%) prayed to “a” God (or god) than said they BELIEVED in “a” God.
Dred - Ben Franklin was NOT without religion, nor did he WANT the United Colonies to be without religion, what he was against was a “National” church, such as the Church of England, where the King (George III) was the HEAD of the Church. Franklin was a Quaker, (not a Quacker), and believed fully in religious freedom, but never considered being free FROM religion as something to desired.
Finally - how are we supposed to SMELL something that appears to be located behind glass? The reality is that each of these items behind the glass merely shows the truth of my use of the phrase “The Great Impostor” for the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
Dtroutma - President Bush has been out of office for several months now, so I suggest you realize that The Great Impostor doesn’t smell like roses anymore.

the stench from Bush is still uncased and permeating the air all over the country, economically, socially, and environmentally.

Of Course, Franklin also wanted the national symbol to be a turkey! But I wonder what he would have had us eat at Thanksgiving?
