Yes, there’s a definite pattern developing. And it makes about as much sense as Bucky usually makes.

I don’t follow newspaper comic strips as closely as I used to, so I didn’t know that Get Fuzzy (one of the few I like most of the time) was in repeats. so it was with shock and delight that I discovered that this week they’re repeating one of my all-time favourite comic strip story arcs, the booger saga. every now and then I pop into a chat room (what we old folks used to call IRC channels), say “booger”, and leave. this is why. booger.

Perhaps Bucky is simply channeling his inner “Dr. Johnny Fever”.

Personally, I think that everyone saying this is annoying or boring needs to lighten up.

I remember when these repeats first were in the paper, and I loved them! I went around doing it to my sister all day. It’s just random fun insulting, an there’s nothing wrong with that.

It IS a recurring theme, as jes98 says, and it DOES pay off, but even if it didn’t would that be so bad? So Bucky is just saying “Booger” to Satchel and running away. The intent to annoy Satch is clear, and I (for one) enjoy the departure from verbose arguments. Just enjoy the ride, or if not, remember that this isn’t the norm for this strip and avoid it until Sunday.

Yeah, I don’t care, I didn’t start the strip until a few years ago, new to me. On the other hand, the payoff better be worth it, it’s got me in suspenders.

There was nothing to indicate why the word scares Satchel. Maybe it was in the original run. Then, it would make sense.

Ba Humbug to all who disparage the “Booger” theme. The drawings are great, Satchel’s expressions are drawn really really well, very expressive and funny. Darby actually draws, if no one has noticed. Most anyone with a sibling is familiar with torture like this.

Not funny! Maybe poor ol’ Darby had a cold or maybe someone told him he had a hanger and now he’s trying to get revenge for his embarrassment. I don’t know, but I’m gonna use my psychic powers here and say that tomorrow’s dialog will be, now wait for it, here it comes, “booger.” I hope I’m wrong.

Reminded of the shaggy dog gag with the guy in the cape who shows up at all the windows peering in and scaring the kids by saying in a fruity Bela Lugosi voice, “I’m the viper; I’ve come to vipe you.” Maybe if I repeat it for four days, it’ll be time for the payoff.

This type of comedy is less successful in a comic strip that in, say, a movie in which a sense of amusement and even hilarity can be built over a short course of time. We tend to lose the impact with a day in between strips. Still, I really enjoy Darby’s use of the device. I guess I’m just a permanent “Get Fuzzy” lover.

If he’s going to do repeats, I hope he runs the arc when Bucky lost his fang trying to catch the ferret.
