    And besides, Ernesto isn’t Petey’s friend; he’s a figment of Petey’s imagination!

MOM! Poor, misunderstood Petey! Introverts don’t want playdates, Madeline, especially not with kids who are always critical or one-upping and may be imaginary, at that!

    Alice, Dill, Beni, stop that!

I was making faces as a kid, and my Mom said do that too many times and it will get stuck that way forever…and she was right, man I am ugly.

if you are ugly, it isn’t that your face froze, it is that your parents were ugly – blame them

I like this strip because Thompson understands reality.

That’s up for debate. Mom has acknowledged him, but Viola called Ernesto imaginary, and at a recital Petey saw Ernesto as next to her, if that’s so, you’d think she’d know he existed. Also, mom’s are known to humor children by adressing their children’s imaginary friends be they invisable or a toy given a personality..I like that Ernesto’s existance or not is up in the air. Not unlike (early) Sesame Street Snuffleupaguses.

@ Stella S: Does she at least do you the courtesy of picking them up and rolling them back to you?
