Tom the Dancing Bug by Ruben Bolling Chagrin Falls "No Harm, No Fowl" Hollywood - Man: Okay, so the alien ship comes in and blows up this field, killing this cow. Director: Beautiful. The explosions will be added in CGI, and when we film, I'll have two guys behind the cow to knock it over. Man: Are you crazy?!! This cow might get hurt!! Man: Do you know how much trouble we'd get in? Director: Hmm...Could we CGI a cow falling down? CATERING Old Man: Too expensive! Man: How about two guys in a cow costume? Director: Come on! Man #2: I know an animal guy who's got cows trained to fall down. Man #2: And we could use soft dirt in the area to be sure it's not injured when it falls. Man: These ribs are awesome! MUNCH MUNCH Director: Sounds great! MUNCH MUNCH And so... Son: Pretty good movie. Daughter: I felt bad for that cow. Mother: Oh, honey. It's all fake! The cow is fine! Father: Sure, there it is in the end credits: "No animals were harmed in the making of this motion picture." Daughter: Whew. Father: Now let's enjoy our dinner, knowing that no innocent animals were harmed just for our enjoyment. Son: Is that an apple in there?! I HATE fruit! The End

Brilliant. I have the same thoughts every time I encounter this oddity in a movie. Just one more good reason to be a vegetarian.

No harm, except for death, which isn’t recorded.

If any animals are harmed in the making of the movie, just eat it and it’s all good.

If God didn’t want us to eat animals, why did he make them taste so good.

The movie thing is because the methods they used to film, say, horses falling down, didn’t instantly kill the animals, but made them suffer long painful deaths or permanent crippling.

Movie horses were trained to fall down. They even used special soft materials in the saddles and stirrups – usually old tires – so the horses wouldn’t be hurt when they went down. If a horse is hurt at all, he won’t do it again. If you look carefully in the scenes where a horse falls, the ground is always clear and either soft earth, sand, or leaf-covered.

At the risk of sounding self righteous though, there IS a difference between killing animals to eat and survive, and killing them just for sport or entertainment.
