Welcome baaack, To that same old place that you laughed about.
Well the names have all changed since you hung around, But those dreams have remained and theyâre turned around.
Whoâd have thought theyâd lead ya (Whoâd have thought theyâd lead ya) Back here where we need ya (Back here where we need ya)
Yeah we tease him a lot cause weâve got him on the spot, welcome back, Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back.Welcome back, welcome back, welcome baaaaack.
âShe missed âpatriotism,â âfaith,â âself-reliance,â âresponsibility,â âvirtue,â and a whole bunch others.â__She didnât⊠YOU did. Those are built from those other words and concepts.
Seriously? thatâs like asking me to elaborate on why I think Garfield is a fat cat that eats lasagna. Every strip Iâve read with her in it has been pretty much themed around her being a self-righteous, full of herself, downright rude jerk.I mean, the first strips I ever saw of this comic were the ones where the entire family was trying to find out what to get her for her birthday, and her responses ranged from unhelpful to downright mean. To her family. Then there was the whole cat thing earlier, âThe sane ones say âthank youâ for making me think my cat was dead.âthe symbol for this comic on this site, last I checked, was her eyes in an âIâm so much more clever than everyone elseâ look, and you really donât at least see how she fails to represent humility as anything more than an abstract concept that she is vaguely in favor of, as long as she doesnât have to, yâknow, do it?
I think the values are great, too, but I donât for a second believe that the grandma actually strives to live up to those ideals. Sheâs just far too happy with herself every time sheâs immodest, unkind, unforgiving, self-aggrandizing, etc.I donât find the strip irritating, just the grandma character. To be honest, as I said above, I always assumed that the point of the grandma WAS that she was a horrible human being high on her own sense of superiority, just like the point of Garfield is that heâs a fat, lasagna eating cat (whoâs highly merchandisable)

Funny how she lists a bunch of values that she herself refuses to pay more than lip service to.
