Mom: Good night, Alice! Alice: Mom! Not yet! Mom: Alice, we read "Princess Piesmasher and the Ten Angry Bakers." Twice. Mom: We sang the night night song. All sixteen verses, plus choruses. Mom: We did the bugaboo dance. Daddy got a bloody nose doing the oopsie bedtime pratfall. What's left? Alice: I'd like to individually thank each of my toys for another day of loyal service to me, Alice. I'll start with Bubsey Clownpants. Mom: Goodnight. Alice: Someday i'm going to extend my bedtime ritual to dawn. Beni: Then she'll be tired and cranky all the time. Dill: Oh, good.

Alice was given more than enough ritual satisfaction by Madeline and poor, bloodied Peter. She needs to learn some limits.
