I have never been within more than about 1,000 feet of a lighting strike. One of the times I was when a squandron mate was hit – for the second time in his career. He suffered temporary loss of hearing and had to discard his underwear but was otherwise no worse for the wear. Apparently the bolt found his wet clothes a better conductor than his body so most of the current went around rather than through him.

Gee, ask the people who have been struck more than once.

hits twice, three times, many many times in the same place, tall buildings for example, towers, lone trees on flat plains… but ok gag just the same…

It would be easier if the Earth didn’t turn, turn, turn.

The whole principle of a lightning rod is that it will be hit multiple times.
