I cut my thumb down to the bone once. It was fascinating looking into the slice and seeing the muscles, tissue, and bone. I handled the injury far better than I handled getting the stitches. I really don’t like needles.
When I was young, my friend and I were balancing along one of those wavy metal guardrails when I slipped and cut my shin open to the bone. It was such a clean cut, it hardly bled. I pulled my sock up to keep the flesh flap from flopping around and bicycled about 1/2 mile home, leaving my friend in the dust. When I walked in to the house, I said to my mom “now don’t freak out!” Got seven stitches. Really surprised myself at how cool I was.
@ArlosDad: If you’ve ever had stitches in one of your fingers, and had it all bandaged up, you know that that finger will be in ALL the action for the next week or so. I had stitches in a finger many years ago while working in a bicycle shop. Every time I tried to do ANYthing for the next two weeks I hit that finger on or with something!
My husband lost the top half of 2 his fingers in an industrial accident, and he laughed and joked in the ambulance and at the hospital. Come to find out, he was in shock…
