It’s actually a Boss boring machine from the beginning of the last century. The auger is of course, missing.

Saw a strip once (Rose Is Rose?) of a man and his wife in a hardware store; the man is holding some strangely-shaped whatsit.

Her: “Why do you need one if you don’t know what it is?”

I’ve been looking for one of those since I was a Tenderfoot Scout! It’s a Left-Handed Smoke Shifter! Wow, I can’t wait to tell the guys. Of course, that was 40+ years ago.

Sorry, Joe, but that’s not an apple peeler. I have one of those antique apple peelers (my GGM’s from 1896), and those run horizontal not vertical. What Tia Carmen has looks more like some sort of hand-powered grinder, perhaps a personal coffee grinder? If it were larger, it would look like my grandmother’s old wheat grinder, but that thing weighs over 100 lbs so Tia Carmen couldn’t be holding it up with one hand.
