Heart: Mr. Basner, since there are only four days of school left, may I make a suggestion? Teacher: no. Heart: In a democracy, all voice are permitted to be heard, especially voices of dissent! Teacher: Miss Heart, it amaze me how scholarly you became just as school is ending. Heart: I know. It's totally "ripley's" believe it or not", I'm telling ya.

Democracy is bunk. What kind of system is that where decisions are being made by a bunch of people, half of whom are below average intelligence. Oh, well. It’s not like anyone really pays much attention to them. Still, it just makes those dummies all uppity to think they matter.

I can just HEAR this conversation. No famous voices or anything like that. It just plays nicely in my brain.

And don’t confuse intelligence with wisdom.

But, Heart, the classroom is NOT a democracy. At best, it is a benevolent dictatorship.

“Your voice will be heard. Your opinions will be noted. We will then proceed to do what we feel is best for our careers.” I spent 2 months in jail last year without a hearing for words on paper in a legal proceeding against a major state university. The arresting detective called my response to the university’s motion “seditious”, nevermind that the university’s motion tried to paint me as evil incarnate. The university police and administration would have made it a couple of years, but then they would have required judicial approval. Just the fact that the police can and will jail you for speech was a wake up call: you only have rights if you have the money to defend against their violation.

It’s funny how naïve children can be.
