Voice: With Apple's announcement only hours away, what's the mood, Roland? Roland: It's one of deep anxiety, Brian... the geeks are calling the new device the "Jesus tablet," which really says it all... they expect it to save them, to perform miracles! You can feel it in the air - these people want their lives changed! Voices: JOBS! JOBS! JOBS! Roland: And now they're begging for work! It's sad, Brian!

Great way to build up impossible expectations so nothing it does will ever live up to the messianic image. Hmmm, where have I seen that before?

Hollering âJobs!â isnât asking for work. Theyâre praising the CEO.

âŚand January 22 was the 26th anniversary of the still famous â1984â commercial that introduced the Macintosh computer (3rd quarter, Superbowl XVIII).

@ Joe - the official name is actually âiSlateâ.
@ Florchi - I have a copy of that commercial. I like to play it for all my lemming-like Windoze users/losers friends!

It doesnât have a name yet. Just a couple of educated guesses based on trademarks filed by Apple dummy corporations. But yeah, it will probably be âiSlateâ or âiPad.â If indeed thatâs whatâs being announced.

You people correcting Roland âCluelessâ Hedley are just adorable.

@ronebofh: theyâre also ruining the fun of the joke :-p

Sound like they are talking about Obama. Howâs that hope and change working for ya now!
Nemesys about 15 years ago
Jesus saves! But when it comes to saving Jobs, Iâll bet on the Jesus Tablet over the Stimulus Package any day.
ChiehHsia about 15 years ago
well, Hedleyâs right about one thing. Any group of people willing to arrive early for the unveiling of a new piece of planned obsolescence, really do need a change in their lives.
Meh.

Should probably thank bill Gates for Apple.
Didnât he and Steve Jobs work together at one time or is that a myth?

How âbout christening it the iMe?
florchi about 15 years ago
@rac0308 - back in 1999, TBS showed a pretty good docudrama that told the Gates/Jobs story - âPirates of Silicon Valleyâ (c) 1999. A DVD is now available. The PBS documentary âTriumph of the Nerdsâ tells pretty much the same story, without the dramatization.

One little glitch with this story line is that the meeting is an invitation-only event for the press. Ergo there is no point in waiting in line to be in the audience. Better to catch the blogs if you canât wait and/or watch the video on the Apple website a few hours later.

Although the price will be rather high, the âmiracleâ is that it will miraculously pay for itself. (At least that can be your excuse to buy it.)
