Was it murder or suicide to get away from the lute playing?

A somewhat enlarged image can be found at the only work, by this artist, so far, to appear in Mr. Melcher’s blog (yesterday). This is actually a detail image of the full The Lute Player (AKA Woman Playing the Lute, link shows Wikipedia page) painting.Apart from the small, different coloration, first image in an online description (Google translated) of a past exhibition at its current-location, it isn’t, as far as I can tell, shown online.Even that appears to be a detail image (frame can be seen at the top, but not the sides or bottom). A larger, slightly-different-coloration image of this one, can be found here, along with a description. At around the same time, the artist also painted Young Woman tuning a Lute (click for full-size)

shown by its current-location page. A different coloration, framed image of it can be found here. Perhaps that also shows a full image of this painting. The artist’s Wikipedia page and collection (more under Subcategories at each level).P.S. The caption on the April 28 strip (as well as its blog entry, has details) has been changed.

The new guy said he could play the mandolin, and tried to strum a kitchen slicer.

Asked to play for the unveiling of Michelangelo’s David, she suddenly stops to ask herself, “Is that what i think it is???”
