dzw3030: Bad manners? I missed Judith Martin’s ruling on that. This is a free discussion, not a diplomatic cocktail party. Anyone with feelings that delicate should avoid any forum of ideas. With dictionaries going totally descriptive instead of their old duty of prescriptive, I fear the loss of my language into a sea of semi-literate ambiguity. While I read a few others (unlike conversation, one can always go back and try again for meaning), it is the only language I have, and as a writer, I need it for a living.
