@somebody short: I was just thinking about that the other day. In your teens, you get told to cut your hair differently by your parents; when you have kids of your own they take a look at your photos as a young person and say sarcastically: “Gee Mom/Dad…cool hair.” We get it comin’ and goin’.
The bird hippie is dedicated to the late Casey “American Top 40” Kasem (who passed away on June 15, 2014), better known for voicing a hippie teen named Shaggy on the Scooby-Doo cartoon series for many years. – ZOINKS!
Stereotype of hippies – and I was 11 in 1968 so I remember the stereotypes – was that they were longhaired, lazy, pot (or grass or even banana peel) smoking, brain-dead (because of all the grass they were smoking) and promiscuous (because they believed in “free-love” rather than marriage).

I just think of when the Beatles first came out & were called “mop-tops” for their “long” hair…fast forward to the cover of “Abbey Road”…

Now you know where the idea for “Woodstock” came from. (Though obviously this isn’t Woodstock.)

A lot of the hippies from that decade have lost all their “hippie-ness” on their heads and are now “seniors”.
